Shelter Her fund raiser for a Women’s Shelter for the Polish American Association

27 czerwca, 2014

One in every four women will face domestic violence in their lifetime.

There is not a community or culture that isn’t gravely impacted by the threat of domestic violence - and our community is no different. One in every four women will face domestic violence in their lifetime. These are women we know.

They are our neighbors and friends. They attend our churches and we see them at the park. They are us.
As a community, we must come together to provide victims of domestic violence a safe place to seek assistance and
create positive change in their lives.

The Polish American Association’s (PAA) Domestic Violence program offers assistance to Polish-speaking immigrant
women who are victims of domestic violence and otherwise would not be able to receive services elsewhere due to a
language barrier.

The domestic violence program for victims and their children provides the following: individual and group counseling for
victims of domestic violence; art therapy for children who have witnessed domestic violence; assistance in filing police
reports; assistance in obtaining civil/criminal Order of Protection; referral and interpretation during divorce cases; and
assistance with Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) self- sponsorship immigration cases.

The PAA currently offers counseling to approximately 180 women/children a year and roughly 50% of those served
are in need of temporary, safe shelter. A women’s shelter for the PAA would extend the current domestic violence
resources available and provide women a safe, temporary shelter as part of their safety plan for themselves and their
children. Please join us in this cause.

Join the Shelter Her inaugural fund raiser for a Women’s Shelter for the Polish American Association on July
10th from 6 to 8:30PM at the Law Offices of Robert Groszek, 3601 N Pulaski Rd. and show your support for
the women and children who so desperately need our kindness by sponsoring this important event at the
$1,000, $500 or $250 level.

Through counseling, victims learn how to identify the cycles of abuse in their own relationships. They learn how to
make a safety plan for themselves and their children. They learn what their legal rights and remedies are in securing
their safety in the future. Most importantly they learn that they are not alone and that they do have choices other than
suffering at the hands of an abusive partner.

Let’s join together for this special project to give women another option—a safe, temporary shelter in conjunction with
the current domestic violence services and resources provided by the Polish American Association.
Thank you so much for your consideration and for all you do to strengthen our communities. We believe that families
are at the center of our community and that at the center of most families is a wife and mother. For those wives
and mothers whose homes are a place of fear and insecurity, we must be a source of comfort and strength.
Please join us on July 10th and generously support the right of women and children to live in safe homes.

Sincerely,
Jennifer Groszek & Jill Arena
