Please join the East European Center for a talk by Prof. Halina Filipowicz from University of Wisconsin-Madison. This talk is co-sponsored by the Harriman Institute.

Halina Filipowicz is a professor of Polish literature at the University of WisconsinMadison and holds an affiliate appointment in the Department of Gender and Women's Studies. She is the author of A Laboratory of Impure Forms: The Plays of Tadeusz Rżewicz and coeditor of The Great Tradition and Its Legacy: The Evolution of Dramatic and Musical Theater in Austria and Central Europe. Her latest book published in 2014: Taking Liberties. Gender, Transgressive Patriotism, and Polish Drama, 17861989 is a study of what may be called patriotism without borders: a nonnational form of loyalty compatible with the universal principles and practices of democracy and human rights, respectful of ethnic and cultural diversity, and, overall, open-minded and inclusive.
