Consulate of the Republic of Poland in Chicago Intervenes with a Radio Station

15 sierpnia, 2016

On 9 August, the Polish diplomatic post intervened with the editors of the Catholic radio station Relevant Radio in connection with the use of the erroneous term “Polish death camp Auschwitz” in one of its programme announcements.

The Consulate had been alerted to the use of this expression by a radio listener. The phrase appeared in the announcement of Saint of the Day programme, which presented the story of a nun sent to the German death camp Auschwitz during World War II.

In a conversation with the radio’s editor Josh Raymond, the Consul explained why the expression “Polish death camp Auschwitz” falsifies history, and asked the editor not to air the announcement in question again. The editor said the erroneous announcement would be withdrawn immediately. The Polish diplomatic post is in contact with the producer of the programme’s trailer (Franciscan Media) in order to ensure that the new announcement is historically accurate.
