Polish American Congress: CANCELLATION OF 18 SEPTEMBER 2018 RALLY IN LAFAYETTE PARK, WASHINGTON, DC

10 września, 2018

Both the Washington, DC Metro Police and the National Park Service require those who wish to hold rallies or other gatherings in Lafayette Park to submit an application with a close estimate of how many are expected to participate in the intended event. Many groups wish to demonstrate in Lafayette Park, and the authorities seek to avoid too many events at the same time. The deadline for filing these applications for a rally intended for 18 September is today BEFORE 5 p.m. I have decided NOT to file applications to hold the rally.

While there was enthusiasm for a rally outside the White House, on the afternoon of 18 September, to demonstrate support for Poland as an indispensable NATO ally of the United States, while President Andrzej Duda was inside meeting with President Donald J. Trump, all in Metro New York who had wanted to participate told me today that, after having canvassed their members, it is impracticable to hire buses to transport Polonia activists to a rally on a work day like Tuesday 18 September.

Many wanted to repeat this year the very successful rally for Poland as NATO Ally organized by Mr. Roman Korzan, Director of the Federation of Polish Americans and member of the POLISH AMERICAN CONGRESS Washington, DC Metro Division, on Saturday 11 June 2016. The late Dr. Susanne Lotarski delivered a memorable speech at this event. Dr. Stanislaw Sliwowski was Master of Ceremonies, and several leaders of member organizations of the CENTRAL AND EAST EUROPEAN COALITION participated in this rally. Approximately five hundred participated and many of them came by bus from New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.

The POLISH AMERICAN CONGRESS will publish a statement on September 18, 2018 to mark the meeting of President Duda with President Trump.
