Tottenham’s Failure in Europe again a Worry

Michael Skok     25 lutego, 2017

Tottenham were unceremoniously dumped from a European competition three times in two years. Mauricio Pochettino’s men gave a performance which was a far cry from their usual EPL performances. Having already lost 1-0 away to the Belgian Genk side, Tottenham yet again gave in an insipid display at Wembley, ultimately ending up with a 2-2 scoreline, losing 3-2 on aggregate.

This again, was following their poor Champions League group showing, where they failed to qualify out of a group featuring the likes of Monaco and Leverkusen. Spurs were comprehensively the third best team in that group. This year’s performance is also following their thrashing in the Europa League last year, when they fell to Borussia Dortmund in the knockout stages.

This is a slight worry, since this is the same group of players that seem to fail to replicate their performance from the EPL to the European cups. The likes of Dele Alli (who was sent off against Genk in the 2-2 draw early on), Christian Erikson, Harry Kane, and Eric Dier have all looked below par. For sure, Pochettino might have to readdress his squad, if they qualify for Europe next season.
