Polish Women Active In Entrepreneurship and The Tech World

August 25, 2017

Catherine Jones, an entrepreneur and wife of U.S. Ambassador to Poland Paul Jones, hosts Polish Women Active In Entrepreneurship and The Tech World

“Fighting the gender bias by highlighting the positive role of women mentors in the community is essential,” said Catherine Jones, an entrepreneur and wife of U.S. Ambassador to Poland Paul Jones, while hosting over 30 women active in entrepreneurship and the tech world at her event “Women in Tech: Coffee and Conversation” on August 24. Catherine, a passionate supporter of women in technology in the U.S. and Poland, brought together local female leaders from many industries and sectors for an open conversation about the challenges women face in entrepreneurship and technology, and what opportunities for success – and for supporting fellow women – exist.  Catherine is founder and CEO of Werbie LLC, of a start-up that works on solutions for women with diabetes.

Panelists were Kamila Sidor, CEO of Geek Girls Carrots; Jowita Michalska, Director of Digital University; Daria Tataj, Founder and CEO of Tataj Innovation; and Katarzyna Wierzbowska, President of the Women’s Entrepreneurship Foundation.  Together with Catherine, they talked about key issues such as strategies how to work with men to overcome stereotypes in the work place; what to do when men or other women overlook female colleagues’ skills and competences in the workplace; what communication skills are needed to get ahead; and the need for confidence and self-esteem nurtured at a young age in girls, both in the home and out. Together, the panelists and the audience also openly discussed these issues, sharing personal experiences, personal challenges of striking a work-life balance, and offering actionable tips that they successfully used to solve issues that many women face.

Afterwards, guests had a chance to connect directly with each other and to create or deepen connections for future cooperation.  All in all, the event was a great first step in creating a large and interactive network of women to help each other succeed in the exciting and fast-growing world of tech startups – both in Poland, and beyond
