ANNA FRAJLICH - UPROOTING, EXILE, ANCHORING IN MY NEW YORK POEMS

How does the image of New York City change in my poetry, how did the alien city I encountered forty years ago as an exile become a value in and of itself, “a boat and a harbor,” a means of arriving, and a point of arrival?

In one of my essay's entitled "About myself and my poems" I wrote that “after Szczecin, the town of my childhood, New York is second on the list of my fascinations. New York was mine and foreign, simultaneously, it does not lock itself from the newcomers, but is impossible to permeate, to penetrate. It is surrounded by waters and is built on granite rock. It will remain the city of my life"
